So Did It Work? The GrandeLASH-MD Review

A few weeks back I was sent Grande Cosmetics’ most sought after product, the GrandeLASH-MD lash enhancing serum. The lovely little gift was from Wendy, who is the South African distributor of the brand’s products (thank you Wendy!). While I did a breakdown of both Grande Cosmetics and the lash serum before (which I highly recommend that you read before proceeding), what’s the proof without some (picture) pudding? Now I must admit, I struggle to stay faithful when it comes to beauty regimes. There’s too many new and exciting products to try, and I often forget what I’m supposed to be committing to. So its with a heck of an…

7 Things I Learned in My First 7 Months of Blogging

In the past few months, since starting my blog in November, my eyes have been opened to a whole world I never knew existed. Between the endless amounts of effort that I had to put into my blog, the blatantly disappointing feeling of having NO ONE read your work, and the overwhelming joy from having your hard work recognised, it has been one hell of a ride. So I thought, what better way to share how wild it has been, than to summarise the seven greatest lessons I’ve had in the last seven months. Whether you’re thinking of starting your own blog, or just interested in what the start-up process…

Urban Decay You’re Draining My Bank Account!

Urban Decay, oh Urban Decay. Why is it that I am unable to leave your store without buying something? It has caused me to avoid that area of Sandton like the plague! Alas, you have now moved next to Woolworths, and your reach is inescapable. Quick Fix Hydra-Charged Complexion Prep Priming Spray 118ml – R460.00 “The hydrating, soothing, pore reducing primer spray visibly reduces the appearance of pores, brightens and smooths skin, and replaces lost moisture. Light enough to use throughout the day (without messing up your makeup), Quick Fix Hydra-Charged Complexion Prep Spray instantly hydrates and softens skin.” How nifty is the idea of a priming spray? One day…

    John Frieda’s Doing it Right!

Don’t get me wrong, I really REALLY want to be a salon-products-only kinda girl, but because of my poor financial planning and shopaholic tendencies, that’s just not going to happen. In comes John Frieda, and his range of affordable hair care. I have tried John Frieda products in the past, and have neither loved nor hated them. But recently I purchased the Smooth Start shampoo and conditioner pair, along with the Extra Strength serum, in my eternal quest to find the best quality drug store products, and they have changed the game! Frizz Ease Smooth Start Shampoo and Conditioner 250ml – R115.95 each The shampoo claims to “(hydrate) hair as it…

    Essence Purchases and Review

If I could buy an Essence item every time I walk past their stand in Clicks or Dischem, I’d be a happy girl (and more often than not I actually do end up buying something, so I’m pretty content). Essence is an amazing, cruelty-free brand that stocks some of my all-time favourite items, like my Fit and Awake Makeup foundation. This means that I trust them and am always keen to try their new goodies. So here are some that I have picked up in the last few months (okay weeks). I Heart Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara This mascara is a repurchase, actually, it’s a repurchase of my repurchase’s repurchase.…

    GrandeLash-MD

Who doesn’t want long, luscious, thick, beautiful lashes? Boys, that’s who. Because those ungrateful creatures already have them. But as for the rest of us, there’s mascara, mascara primer, false lashes, tinting, extensions and lash serums that all aid in looking less mole rat and more Disney princess. Here are my issues with the above methods: false lashes are a PAIN and not practical for (my) everyday use, tinting doesn’t help with length or thickness, even if it is quite inexpensive and extensions on the other hand cost a small fortune. Serums have a whole unique set of problems. Most of them are quite expensive, and to invest anywhere between…

L.A. Girl Cosmetics Purchases and Review

L.A. Girl was one of those brands that I associated with the frighteningly cheap, non-descript, bulk makeup at Dischem. You know the palettes of 50 eyeshadows for R50? Or the strange lip palettes that look like they either belong in Beauty Value? REST ASSURED, the only thing L.A. Girl’s cosmetics have in common with those from Beauty Value, is that they’re fantastically priced! The (cruelty-free) brand stocks a range of some of the best value-for-money items I have ever come across. They offer everything from mascaras to setting powders, and just about everything in between. After trying out their much raved about BB cream, I was instantly head over heels,…

Colourpop Haulin’: My New Guilty Pleasure

Late last year, and into the beginning of 2018, Colourpop was having a massive site-wide sale. I’m quite apprehensive about purchasing online, let alone from an international store (because customs), but this time, the temptation was too much and I went wild! Colourpop is an online American makeup supplier. Their products are cruelty-free and in the ‘super-affordable’ range (read: dirt cheap). It makes you realise how we as South Africans are getting ripped off in the beauty department. They offer a huge selection of eye shadows, blushes, highlighters and lipsticks, and their range is ever-expanding. They often release limited edition collections and have sales at least once a month (on…

    One on One: BurgundyBeautyZA

BurgundBeautyZA. Between her simplistic, clean-cut flatlays, her down-right frank product reviews and her incredible commitment and consistency, I can’t actually pick what I love most about Simran’s Instagram account. As one of the first people I followed after starting my blog, Simran’s stunning page is one that I will always hold in high regard. In my opinion, she stands out in the beauty community as someone who really does have her followers in mind in everything that she does. Burgundy Beauty is the first Instagram-only review account that I have interviewed for One on One, and this article really capture the essence of why I started the segment. I wanted…

    Where’d You Go March?

Where on earth is this year going? It seems that 2018 is speeding by and not much can slow it down. Before I know it, another Monthly Must-haves is due. March was a bit of a blur, but it did see me getting a new dog, a new coffee machine and of course, a lot of new makeup. Here is a little taste of the things that have made my March significantly better. NYX Lip Lingerie in Corset While this liquid lipstick wasn’t a new purchase, it was about ALL that I used on my lips in March. It is the perfect cool-toned nude for my skin, and I have…
