My Monthly Must-haves: December

And just like that, 2017 has come to an end. What a year. I don’t know about you, but 2017 was a less than pleasant year in my books, so I am quite glad to see the back end of it. In saying this, there were many positives that 2017 brought with it, one of which was my blog!

Starting a blog encouraged me to try new products and enjoy the time I spent playing with makeup. It’s nice to do posts like this with the passing of each month to see how your beauty interests and needs change, and to remember all the awesome products that you found (and perhaps forgot) along the way.

December was a hot, festive month, most of which I spent working (where I don’t wear makeup). So this Monthly Must-haves is lacking in the makeup department, and focuses more on skincare.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

Mmmmm… My new favourite moisturiser. This was a real hit this month, and I used it regularly as my morning face cream. I’ve written a more in-depth review of my Clinique Black Friday purchases before, of which this was one.

This lightweight gel-like formula is perfect for sweltering December days (and nights). Just remember to add SPF is you’re going to be in the sun.

Cala Fan Brush with the LA Girl Strobe Lite Strobing Powders

I posted about these quite a few times this month on my Instagram page. I have two shades, 90 Watt and 100 Watt, one of which is more pink and the other is more champagne. They have a MASSIVE range of colours, from iridescent white to deep bronze, so there is something to suit every skin tone.

They’re quite intense, and can be layered on to look almost blinding. If you’re looking for something softer, I suggest a MAC Mineralized Skin Finish.

The Body Shop Christmas Edition Body Butters

This year’s Christmas range from The Body Shop was very impressive. My favourite scents were Frosted Berries and Sugared Plum (sorry Vanilla Chai). I really liked that they expanded the festive range to include so many products this year, like candles. My favourite of all the items was of course… the body butters!

In the giveaway I did at the beginning of December with Tayla from @twentycollective_sa, the gift set contained a mini body butter in this flavour (Frosted Berries). After smelling it, I needed to pick up one for myself. I like having a scent that reminds me of a particular time, so this will be my December/Christmas/birthday scent.

Suki Suki Naturals Jasmine Lip Treatment

I know that having a favourite lip balm seems quite unnecessary, but it really is due to how good this one is! I have the most scaly, peely, gross lips. They are forever dry and preventing me from enjoying the wonders of liquid lipstick.

BUT, after using this lip balm twice a day, after I brush my teeth each time, my lips are super smooth and soft. No more constantly applying lip balm throughout the day, no more chapped, bright red lips, just lovely happy lips.

Essence 44 On Air!

This is probably the most grownup that festive nails can look. The polish can’t decide if it’s gold or silver, so it happily suits both. I’ve been wearing it so often because December is the one month of the year that seems to contain most reasons to celebrate: Christmas, my birthday and New Year’s.

A bonus feature is the fact that the polish lasts ages because of its glitter, which means it’s both beach- and sunscreen-safe.

What have you been loving in the hair, skin and nails departments recently? I love hearing about new products to try and test out. Send me you recommendations and they may just feature in my next Monthly Must-haves. Happy New Year and may 2018 bring all the success and happiness we each deserve!
