Seven MAC Products I Don’t Want But Need

Who doesn’t love MAC? You don’t even have to buy or own their products to love MAC. It’s just something about their sleek black packaging and endless variety of products in different shades and textures that made every little future makeup-wearer walk past and drool as a kid.

I still drool at MAC products, but now I do it in the comfort of my own home, as I online shop! It’s one of my guilty pleasures, filling my cart with all the items I can’t afford.

This list details one such haul. A roundup of some new and existing MAC products that caught my eye! Let me know if you guys have any of the makeup listed below (and whether I should take the financial plunge and treat myself!)

Tendertalk Lip Balm in Candy Wrapped – R300.00

I imagine this to be similar to Labello’s Beauty and Repair lip balm (THAT THEY DISCONTINUED!!!). I love a gloss or balm that has a subtle light pink tint. It makes my lips look just a little paler, without being too thick, or requiring me to reapply.

At R300.00 though… I’d rather hold out on the rare chance the Labello one makes a comeback.

Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation – R500.00

Agh I just love a fresh face! Sheer foundations are my go-to, and what screams hydrating, glowy, light coverage more than a foundation named ‘waterweight’?

I also like the fact that this foundation provides sun protection. With an SPF 30 included in the formula, this would be a great everyday product for me. Perhaps I’ll look into it next time I need a new foundation.

Lipglass in Nymphette – R230.00

This is the one product on this list that I have actually purchased before. Nymphette is the most beautiful lipglass MAC makes (in my opinion). When I bought my first tube (all those years ago) the lady at the counter told me this colour was being discontinued. Clearly its returned. And I am so glad!

It’s a lovely pink gloss with gold shimmer. It’s not too peach, not too red, but juuuuuust right. I would highly recommend this product to those who enjoy a low maintenance lip look, with the exception of VERY fair people, who this might look too bright on.

Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Soft Frost – R440.00

This is a product I have been eyeing for months. I’m really into the mermaid/ethereal/alien highlight look, where the shimmer has a dual-tone quality. This particular one has a purplish blue reflect which is right up my alley.

The thing is, I can’t justify buying this when I already have MAC’s Lightscapade, which is the almost white highlighter from the Mineralize Skinfinish range. They’re just too similar for me to fork out R440.00, that being said, I have been known to eat my words when it comes to makeup I vow not to buy…

Eye Shadow X 9: Luck and Fortune – R 780.00

This gives me Too Faced Sweet Peach palette vibes. There are so few skin tones that WOULDN’T be complemented by these warm peachy pink colours. With the inclusion of the dark brown and pink, as well as some lighter shimmers, I imagine this palette to be so versatile!

As beautiful as the packaging is, and as much use as I would get out of this little collection, I cannot justify paying almost EIGHT HUNDRED RAND for nine shadows. It’s ludicrous. After doing my price comparison with my Inglot shadows, I don’t think I will easily buy MAC eyeshadows again.

Powder Blush Duo: Love Token – R650.00

Blush. My newest weakness.

This gorgeous duo immediately caught my eye because it has not one of my favourite shades but TWO (which would actually mean I’m getting two products for one, so I’m saving money). A warm-toned pink and a light peach would work perfect with my skin tone. And the beautiful packaging would be an added bonus.

Matte Lipstick in Beatrix – R240.00

Just look at it! I can’t resist a maroon lippy. Don’t get me wrong, I hardly ever wear the shade, but something about them just sees me hoarding ore and more in that tone.

I am very pale (duh), so a strong lip colour can be a bit overwhelming on my face, but when I fake tan, it can look really great. When I see this lipstick, I have to remind myself that I already own Diva by MAC, and that I cannot justify owning two colours so similar when I hardly wear the one I already have.

  1. Megan, I adore this post! It’s so funny and honest, and it is all about my absolute FAVE make up brand 🙂 I completely agree with some of the products being a bit tooo pricey, however I’ve been using their base, lip stick and shadows for ages (I tend to buy one at a time though). The quality is really great, doesn’t react with my skin, and I love the look it gives me. Looking forward to more of your lovely posts, Peaches xx

    1. Thank you so much! I am so glad someone else appreciates my ridiculous humour! I must admit, i really love MAC’s quality, they’ve never let me down, but sometimes their prices are just too much. Thank you for checking out my post. xxx
