An Evening of Spring Trends with ELLE DECORATION

Last week I had the privilege of attending ELLE DECORATION’s Spring Trends Event, held to celebrate the new styles, ideas, themes and fashions that the spring season has brought with it. The evening was one designed to stimulate each of the senses, with rooms dedicated to soundscapes, gin bars, stylish furniture pieces with incredible fabrics and floral arrangements at every turn. Of all my senses that were treated at the Spring Trends Event, the gorgeous Lel Mirror Dor venue on Northcliff Hill with its breath-taking views ensured that the sights enjoyed on the evening would be most memorable. The open plan double-storied house had each room occupied by a different…

    Homecoming

Your early twenties are like the beginning of a great journey. Careers are starting, degrees are being obtained and adventures are being had all around you. Sometimes, those adventures mean leaving the comfort of your home, city, or even country. As massively exciting as it may be for the backpackers, the contikki-ers, the emigraters, the soon-to-be-South-East-Asian teachers, their goodbyes often leave those who stay behind with an equally massive sense of anticipation for their homecoming. The beginning of 2019 will see me saying goodbye to my best friend of the last 7 years, as he packs up his life in South Africa and boards a flight to London to settle…

    One on One with Topknotch

Today I have the absolute fortune of sharing my One on One ‘interview’ with Rachael (aka Topknotch), one of my nearest and dearest Insta-friends. This article is especially close to my heart because Rachael was one of the first blogs I stumbled on after starting my own. I remember being overwhelmed at how professional and well-done her blog was (and still is). Over the course of my blogging journey she has provided me with a template of what I want for my blog. She’s hardworking and consistent and so genuinely kind to followers and blogging friends, I’m grateful to have her in my blogging support group and to be collaborating…

Colourpop Haulin’: My New Guilty Pleasure

Late last year, and into the beginning of 2018, Colourpop was having a massive site-wide sale. I’m quite apprehensive about purchasing online, let alone from an international store (because customs), but this time, the temptation was too much and I went wild! Colourpop is an online American makeup supplier. Their products are cruelty-free and in the ‘super-affordable’ range (read: dirt cheap). It makes you realise how we as South Africans are getting ripped off in the beauty department. They offer a huge selection of eye shadows, blushes, highlighters and lipsticks, and their range is ever-expanding. They often release limited edition collections and have sales at least once a month (on…

    One on One: BurgundyBeautyZA

BurgundBeautyZA. Between her simplistic, clean-cut flatlays, her down-right frank product reviews and her incredible commitment and consistency, I can’t actually pick what I love most about Simran’s Instagram account. As one of the first people I followed after starting my blog, Simran’s stunning page is one that I will always hold in high regard. In my opinion, she stands out in the beauty community as someone who really does have her followers in mind in everything that she does. Burgundy Beauty is the first Instagram-only review account that I have interviewed for One on One, and this article really capture the essence of why I started the segment. I wanted…

Four of the Best from Suki Suki Naturals Skincare

It has been just over three months since the launch of local hair care company Suki Suki Naturals’ new skincare range.  I’ve tried to give myself a long period of consistent use of the items from the range, as I know that typically, natural products aren’t a ‘quick fix’ but instead take more time to show results. Honestly, I’m really impressed with the range as a whole, and when you consider that Linda (Suki Suki’s owner) makes everything by hand, I can’t help but be a little bit in awe. From her ingredient sourcing to her product packaging to the actual results her product’s deliver, everything she touches seems to…

One on One: Everything x She

What a whirlwind of a month March has been (all 14 days of it)! I know I have been MIA lately, as have most of my regular pieces, but One on One is back with its first ever non-blogger! The STUNNING Natasha from @everythingxshe. I’m really excited about this article in particular because of the absolutely ridiculous follower to talent ratio that Natasha has. With less than 500 followers, she is an example of why this segment was created. I wanted One on One to showcase amazing artists, bloggers etc. who have yet to be found by the beauty community (but definitely should be). Natasha was a dream to work…

Step Up Your Makeup Game with Two New SwiitchBeauty Products

If you use Instagram, you’re probably following (or have at least seen) SwiitchBeauty’s account. And if you’re into beauty, you probably own some of their awesome products. SwiitchBeauty is a local company created and run by a group of girls who are changing the face of South African beauty (see what I did there, changing the FACE). The company has absolutely aced the marketing, social media, packaging and affordability games, and has unsurprisingly become one of the most hyped brands because of it. So you can imagine how ecstatic I was to receive a press package from them, containing their newest babies: a translucent setting powder and a lip priming…

    Sensitive Skin Essentials

In addition to being sunlight-averse, my skin is also incredibly temperamental, fluctuating between oily and dry with little or no warning. I used to be very aggressive with my skincare in my teens, using alcohol-based toners and Garnier scrubs. Come first year, my skin said enough is enough, and proceeded to burst into rashes and dry spots whenever I used harsh products. And so began my search for more gentle, yet effective skincare products. I try and look for mildness in all the skin products I use, from makeup remover to hand cream, so that my sensitive skin has no excuse to breakout or burn. This is a collection of…

    One on One: Kelly-Anne Joseph

With all the lovely positive vibes floating around on Instagram lately, I thought about how I could do my share in supporting the fantastic blogger community (all of whom have been so kind to me in my months of being Perilously Pale). For bloggers, and women, and blogging women, support and backing and encouragement is vital for growth. The amount of shout-outs, collaborations and mentions I have received have been the biggest reasons for my ever-growing following. And so, One on One was born. I wanted to give an inside look into the personalities behind some of my favourite accounts and blogs by doing little interviews with some of these…
